SOUGHT--TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER BUSINESS PARTNERS POC: Technical, Gloria
Seaborn (803) 762-8522. The Biomedical Test Materials Program (BTMP),
under the US Department of Commerce (DOC)/National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service
(NMFS), Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC), Charleston
Laboratory, solicits interest from organizations willing to partner
with the National Marine Fisheries Service for commercialization of
unique technologies and/or collaborative research for development of
additional processing technologies through various partnering
mechanisms including User Facility Agreements, License Agreements,
Funds-In Agreements, and Cooperative Research and Development
Agreements. The technologies available for industry use and
commercialization include the following: processing of fish oil through
a two- stage wiped-film evaporator to produce deodorized fish oil (30
per cent n-3 fatty acids); processing of deodorized fish oil using
transesterification, urea adduction and short-path distillation to
produce a n-3 ethyl ester concentrate (80 per cent n-3 ethyl esters);
processing of n-3 ethyl esters concentrate through supercritical fluid
CO 2 extraction followed by high performance liquid chromatography to
produce EPA ethyl ester and DHA ethyl ester (90 per cent ethyl
esters). For general information on these technologies, contact Gloria
Seaborn by telephone (803) 762-8522, or in writing to
DOC/NOAA/NMFS/Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC), Charleston
Laboratory, 219 Ft. Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412-9110.
Organizations interested in partnering with NMFS on these technologies
must have existing capabilities in marketing and support services in
the domestic marketplace. Any organization with interests in the above
mentioned areas must respond with a written statement (two copies) of
capabilities (limit five pages), to Gloria Seaborn at the above
address, describing the organization's technical expertise, marketing
capabilities, financial resources (e.g. annual report or corporate
resume) and motivation for participating in this program. The statement
must be dated within 30 calendar days of the date of this notice.
