The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), Western Currency Facility, Fort Worth, Texas, requires a commercialy available cylindrical grinder and associated equipment for grinding electroformed nickel plates. This solicitation is being issued under full and open competition. The grinder shall be used to grind electrolytic plates .029'' +/- .00025'' in thickness with a surface finish to less than 1.0 micrometers. The plates shall be held in place around a plate holding cylinder. The base unit grinder shall have the following components: (1) magnetic and fabric coolant filtrations sytems; (2) a table mounted grinding wheel dresser; (3) a variable frequency drive unit; and (4) a programmable grinding controller. An option for two (2) additional cylindrical grinders will be included in the solicitation. Interested firms are required to submit a written request for a copy of the solicitation.
