No.57. This acquisition will enable the Navy to maintain essential
engineering and research capabilities at the applied research
laboratory as follows: (1) Fundamental research to understand the
guidance and control of undersea weapons, including simulation and
modeling for design and performance prediction of undersea weapon
guidance and control systems. (2) Research and development of advanced
thermal propulsion concepts and systems for undersea weapons and
vehicles, including systems modeling and dynamic simulation for torpedo
propulsion systems. (3) Research and development of advanced propulsors
and other fluid machinery for undersea weapons and submarine/surface
platforms, including the hydrodynamic, hydroacoustic and structural
acoustic analysis, performance prediction, noise prediction, testing
and evaluation, and specification of such devices. (4) Development of
materials technology and manufacturing technology to meet unique
requirements of undersea systems components. (5) Design and development
of atmosphere and undersea communications systems research that
supports and complements maintained capabilities. US COMPANIES ONLY
