COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 7,1996 PSA#1653Dahlgren Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, 17320 Dahlgren Road,
Dahlgren, VA 22448-5100 A -- REPLACEMENT HEATSHIELD MATERIALS FOR STRATEGIC SYSTEMS REENTRY
BODIES SOL N00178-97-R-4001 POC Karen Lenox, (540)653-7621/Dwight G.
Cooper. The Naval Surface Warfare Center intends to negotiate on a sole
source basis with Hitco Technologies, Inc., of Gardena, California, for
carbon-phenolic heatshield materials for Submarine Launched Ballistic
Missile (SLBM) Strategic Systems Reentry Bodies. The contractor will be
required to use various rayon, pitch, PAN and Kynol fibers and resins
to produce different geometries of heatshield materials for testing of
their thermal, mechanical and ablative properties. The contract will
include options for certain fibers produced in various frusta
geometries. Identical processing cycles to those previously used by
Hitco on past efforts must be employed to insure consistent thermal and
mechanical properties for these materials. The contract period is
estimated to be 4 years. See Note 22. (0218) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0006 19960806\A-0006.SOL)
