OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK POC James D. Schultz (360) 452-4501 Ext. 211. The
National Park Service intends to extend three concession contracts
which will expire on December 31, 1996, within Olympic National Park
for a period of three years. The three current concessioners have
performed satisfactory and retain their right of preference pursuant to
the provisions of Section 5 of the Act of October 9, 1965, (79 Stat.
969; 16 U.S.C. 20 et esq) and 36 CFR 51.5, under this administrative
action to extend the existing contracts. This extension is necessary to
allow the continuation of public services during the completion period
of the Development Concept Plan and Site Plans for the park. The
National Park Service will not renew these contracts for an extended
period until planning can be conducted to determine the future
direction for concession services at all three locations within the
Olympic National Park. The necessary planning process is will have a
direct affect on the concession activities and services. The planning
purposes is expected as long as three years to complete. Until the
planning process in completed, it will not be in the best interest of
Olympic National Park to enter into long term concession contracts. For
these reasons, it is intention of the National Park Service to extend
the current contracts for a period of three years beginning January 1,
