IFB o/a 08/22/96. Estimated Cost Range: $1,000,000-$3,000,000. Time for
completion: 90 calendar days after receipt of notice to proceed. No
document charge or deposit is required. Project involves: The site is
comprised of the entire eastern block, from 17th & 18th streets, and
one-half (1/2) of the western block, from 18th & 19th Streets between
Dodge & Douglas Streets, in downtown Omaha, NE. The project excludes
St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and the Douglas Building (former
Masonic Temple) located on the west half of the western block. The
project includes closing 18th Street from Dodge to Douglas Streets.
Project consists of, but is not limted to: (1) asbestos removal of
fireproofing, floor tiles, piping insulation and mudded joints; (2)
Demolition of 85,000 square foot, five-story old Omaha Branch of
Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City; (3) Demolition of three-story,
20,000 square foot Bell Federal Credit Union; (4) Site clearing of
foundations and rubble from previously demolished buildings now covered
by parking lots; (5) Removal and disposal underground petroleum storage
tanks and associated petroleum impacted soil; (6) Temporary barriers
and shoring; and (7) Grading to preceed general construction contract
for new Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse. Old Omaha Branch of
Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City was constructed in 1924 and
extended in 1954. This building may include architectural items worthy
of salvage for historic preservation. Any contractor or subcontractor
performing asbestos removal or underground petroleum storage tank and
petroleum impacted soil removal shall satisfy special responsibility
and shall provide bodily injury liability insurance written on the
comprehensive form of policy of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence.
Such coverage must encompass liabilities arising from work with
hazardous materials involved. Any contractor or subcontractor
performing building implosion or demolition shall satisfy special
responsibility, provide bodily injury insurance (of at least $500,000
per occurence) and provide property liability insurance (of at least
$5,000,000) coverage written on the comprehensive form of policy. The
Government will not indemnify against such risks. Any contractor or
subcontractor performing soils/geotechnical inspection services shall
satisfy special responsibility requirements. All responsible sources
