Operations Command (USSOCOM) has a requirement for Multiband
Inter/Intra Team Radios (MIBTRs). The MIBTRs are
miniaturized/lighweight handheld team radios that will operate on a
user selected frequency from 30 to 512 MHz; weigh less than 3 pounds
with battery (3 lbs required/1.5 lbs desired); and include embedded
COMSEC (required VINSON 12/16 Kbs encryption rate and fascinator
compatible). USSOCOM intends to award a cost-sharing RDT&E effort for
limited development/modification of existing commercial products
followed by a firm-fixed-price production option. The option shall be
structured in ranges to cover anticipated approx. quantity of 4,000
units in years 1998 through 2003. USSOCOM intends to release the
solicitation for this requirement via SOCOM Electronic Bulletin Board
(EBB) o/a 28 Aug 96. This procurement is unrestricted and all
responsible sources solicited may submit a proposal which will be
