COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 8,1996 PSA#1654Bill Murray, 1101 Market Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402 Z -- POST TENSIONING SOL 1E-186526 DUE 092396 POC Contracting Officer,
Bill Murray, 423/751-2346 Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will issue
a Blanket Purchase Order (BPO) for post tensioning to be performed at
several TVA dams. The BPO will be for a period of 5 years. The
following is a description of the work to be performed atthe
Chickamauga Lock. (Other work will be similar): Post tensioning of
Chickamauga Auxiliary Lock, river wall chamber blocks number 38, 39,
40, 45, and 46, upper guard wall block number 36, lower gate block
number 47 and lower approach wall block number 48 is required due to
serious cracking and the high longitudinal stresses caused by concrete
growth/Alkali Aggregate Reaction (AAR). Subsequesntly, movement of the
blocks has been recorded. Post tensioning of blocks 36, 38, 39, 40, 45,
46 and 48 will effectively tie the blockstogether and restrict
movement. These blocks will also bracket blocks 37 and 47which are the
upper and lower river wall gate blocks. This bracketing of the
gateblocks will add addidtional stability to these blocks. Allowances
are made in theloading of the tendons to accommodate for future
concrete growth. The post tensioning system that will be placed in
these blocks will consist of 52 strands, seven wire, grade 270 K
tendons. The loading will be from 10% to 44% (300 kips to 1340 kips) of
the ultimate strength of the tendon. These tendons are to be anchored
40 and 50 ft. below the rock/concrete interface. The tendons will be
between 138 and 155 ft in length. Approximately 73 tendons are proposed
to be installed in these eight blocks. TVA will mail Request for
Proposals (RFP)on 8/23/96. To request a copy of the RFP send fax to
423-751-8462, attention: BillMurray. (0219) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0220 19960807\Z-0023.SOL)
