COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 9,1996 PSA#1655NEW RAC RELIABILITY BLUEPRINTS The Reliability Analysis Center (RAC),
which is sponsored by the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC)
and operated by IIT Research Institute (IITRI) for over 20 years, is
the DoD Information Analysis Center (IAC) for the collection, analysis
and dissemination of reliability and maintainability data. The RAC is
pleased to announce a series of publications dedicated to providing
tailorable guidelines for defining, implementing and assessing reliable
product designs: DEFINING RELIABILITY PROGRAMS (RBPR-1) provides
insight into the reasons for specifying reliability in a product
procurement, the objectives of a sound reliability program, and the
tasks that can be performed to most effectively achieve the product
reliability goals/objectives. AVAILABLE NOW. DEVELOPING RELIABILITY
GOALS/REQUIREMENTS (RBPR-2) defines the process of developing and
allocating numerical and qualitative reliability design requirements
and goals by describing procedures and approaches for establishing
realistic product reliability objectives. AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 1996.
DESIGNING FOR RELIABILITY (RBPR-3) emphasizes the premise that inherent
product reliability performance begins at the earliest stages of
design. It contains detailed descriptions and examples of all the
needed design tasks, along with their advantages and disadvantages.
AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 1996. ASSESSING RELIABILITY PROGRESS (RBPR-4)
includes detailed approaches on how and when to apply reliability
assessment tasks to measure progress towards meeting reliability
objectives. Each task is coupled with details on how to perform it,
interpret the results, and integrate the results into the design
process. AVAILABLE OCTOBER 1996. MEASURING PRODUCT RELIABILITY (RBPR-5)
provides guidance in selecting and applying various quantitative and
qualitative reliability measurement techniques in a tailored
reliability program. It discusses test strategy as a means of
emphasizing measurement techniques which will add value for the
customer. AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 1996. ENSURING RELIABLE PERFORMANCE
(RBPR-6) includes guidance in applying tasks designed to ensure that
inherent product reliability is not compromised during manufacture or
customer use. Guidelines for identifying and eliminating design errors,
parts problems and workmanship defects are described in detail.
AVAILABLE OCTOBER 1996. To inquire about these RAC publications, or to
