Livermore National Laboratory is currently in the initial design phase
of the proposed National Ignition Facility (NIF) for the Department of
Energy (DOE). This experimental facility will contain 192 laser beams.
One component of each beamline is the preamplifier module (PAM). We
are seeking sources to work with the LLNL design staff to design for
cost effectiveness and reliability the preamplifier module. A complete
procurement package is anticipated to be available for bid by March
1998. The outcome of the research is to have industry produce the
modules with a delivery schedule of 196 PAMS over 18 months. LLNL is
also seeking companies that possess the infrastructure and expertise to
carry out this work. Prospective sources should have personnel
experienced in building laser systems and possess the personnel and
equipment for evaluating 12.5 J/pulse, 20 nsec laser pulses both for
energetics and for wavefront quality. Ideal candidate companies should
have demonstrated experience in the design and construction of large
commercial laser systems and the field service maintenance of the
units. Interested firms should respond with a description of
qualifications with respect to the foregoing or related fields. The
small business size standard applicable to the proposed acquisition is
500 employees. Firms qualifying as a small business with respect to
this standard should so state. Responses are required on or before
September 9, 1996. Firms responding to this announcement which fail to
provide the required information will not be considered for inclusion
