Rodgers (301) 975-6398 The National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) has a requirement for technical support for research
in the design and evaluation of innovative information systems. This
contract is required to develop demonstrations of the feasibility of a
new type of intelligent database system to retrieve information. The
intent of this contract is to assist NIST personnel in devising
appropriate technology and data structures to enable these
demonstrations to be comprehensive and useful. Tasks shall include: (1)
design appropriate data structures for representing the data selected
by NIST; (2) develop the appropriate set of rules and constraints that
allow the search engine to manipulate the data; (3) work with NIST
personnel to develop appropriate testing methodologies for evaluation
of the system; and (4) work with NIST personnel to develop a
demonstration based on the above work. Deliverables shall be
reports--F.O.B. Destination, Gaithersburg, Maryland--The period of
performance shall be from data of award through January 31,
1996--Evaluation criteria shall include Understanding the Technical
Requirement, Vendor Experience, and Past Performance--A purchase order
shall be issued based on a written solicitation with an approximate
award date of September 15, 1996--All responsible sources may submit a
