The Government intends to purchase on a sole source basis the following aerosol sampling and sizing instrument described as a Portable Aerosol Counter manufactured by Climet Instruments, Climet model CI-500 modified as described in the following specifications: Sample rate of 0.1 cubic feet per minute or greater; number of size channels: 10; size channels: .3 - .5 microns, .5 - .7 microns, .7 - 10.0 microns, 1.0 - 2.0 microns, 2.0 - 5.0 microns, 5.0 - 7.0 microns, 7.0 - 10.0 microns, 10 - 15 microns, 15 - 25 microns, greater than 25 microns; RS-232 communications; Memory: 250 or greater data runs; Battery power: 3 hours operating time. In order to accommodate the increased memory required for the channels, the Federal Standard 209E calculations, the alarm features and the reporting features may be deleted if required. The portable aerosol counter will be used in support of a biological sampling and analysis project being conducted in conjunction with the Army. It will be used at field test sites for data gathering and reduction. It mus be portable and provide data comparable to that gathered by the Army. This aerosol counter is being evaluated and compared to other types for gathering data to be used in selection of biological agent detector. Other aerosol counters currently being evaluated use the aerodynamic characteristics of an aerosol to determine its size. The Government requires an optical sizing device in order to provide a useful comparison. Award to be made under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures.
