This is a notice of intent to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) 972-81780-0000/716 on a sole source basis in accordance with 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), ''Only One Responsible Source,'' to VIZ Manufacturing Company, 335 East Price Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144-5782. The items to be purchased are as follows: (1) 50 each, Radiosonde Model No. 1544-623, MK2, 403 MHz radiosonde with Omega Navaid windfinding capability compatible with ECC ozone pump and cells; (2) 150 each, Radiosonde Model No. 1543-623, MK2, 403 MHz radiosonde with Loran-C Navaid windfinding capability compatible with ECC ozone pump and cells; (3) 50 each, Radiosonde Model No. 1540-523, MK2, 1680 MHz radiosonde with capability compatible with ECC ozone pumps and cells; and (4) 25 each, Radiosonde Model No. 1543-611, MK2, 403 MHz radiosonde with Loran-C windfinding capability. Manufacturer agrees to replace instruments found defective prior to use. Delivery to Wallops Island is required no later than November 1, 1996. These radiosondes are to be used with existing unique ground equipment owned, maintained, and operated by NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Wallops Flight Facility. These ground stations are manufactured by the VIZ Manufacturing Co. and are compatible only with the radiosondes manufactured by VIZ Manufacturing Co. The manufacturing drawings and specifications are propriety to VIZ Manufacturing and are not available for solicitation purposes. No other manufacturer is known to have the necessary information and capabilities to provide compatible instruments. It is anticipated that the RFQ resulting in a purchase order will be issued on or about September 5, 1996. Any firms desiring consideration are requested to fully identify their interest and capability to supply these instruments within 15 days of publication of this synopsis to the GSFC Contracting Officer listed above.
