US Army, CECOM Acquisition Center, Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey 07703-5008

58 -- WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORKS (WLANS) POC Judith Pinsky, 908/532-5987. Project Manager, Joint Tactical Area Communications Systems (PM JTACS) is seeking potential sources for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) which could be incorporated in to the Army Tactical Area Common User System (ACUS); which includes both TRI-TAC and MSE systems. It is envisioned that the WLAN would interface to the ACUS through an IEEE 802.3 port on the existing packet switch or in the future through an ATM router connected to an ATM switch. The objective requirements identified for the WLAN are that it should be compliant with the IEEE 802.11 standard and must also comply with the Army and Joint Technical Architecture. The WLAN should provide at least 3 Mb/s throughput at distances of up to 3 kM for up to 40 users. Even if the product you are identifying does not meet these specific requirements, we would still appreciate a response with an explanation of whether you plan on meeting these requirements in the future or whether you feel these requirements cannot be achieved and why. In addition, we would like you to address how your product either does or could be made to operate in frequency ranges compatible with the military environment. If you have any recommendations on how to secure your WLAN product, this information would also be appreciated. Interested parties are invited to submit a written response to this notice within 30 days. Responses should include, as a minimum, the following information: 1) description of capabilities in satisfying this requirement, 2) cost information on your available products, 3) availability of your product. It would be appreciated if all responses and questions concerning this announcement be addressed to Ms. Judy Pinsky, OPM JTACS, ATTN: SFAE-C3S-JTC-TMD, Ft. Monmouth, NJ 07703-5506, Telephone (908) 532-5987. This announcement does not constitute a request for proposal, but is solely for the purpose of planning by surveying the market for qualified sources interested in the above requirement. No formal soliciation is available at this time. (0233)
