COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 23,1996 PSA#1665Los Alamos National Laboratory, Mail Stop C331, P.O. Box 1663, Los
Alamos, NM 87545 A -- BASIC RESEARCH WORK SOL IPO-LIC:95-J058. POC Send the required
information to Jerome Jay Garcia, Industrial Partnership Office, Mail
Stop C334, P.O. Box 1663, Los Alamos, NM 87545. The University of
California, which operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)
under contract to the Department of Energy, solicits interest from
companies wishing to license, develop and market a unique set of
technologies: The High Gas Flow Alpha Detector which is used to measure
the alpha contamination inside of large pipes or other enclosed
volumes. Ions generated by alpha particles inside the enclosed volume
are transported to an ion detector by a fast-moving stream of gas
within the object to be monitored. The ability to monitor in high flow
rate situations is a unique to this type of monitor. The Background
Canceling Surface Alpha Detector can measure the amount of alpha
contamination on a surface and simultaneously the radioactive gases
emitted from that surface. This feature allows separation of signals
from surface and gaseous contaminants in real time. This real time
background separation (applied to any ionizing radiation background)
differentiates these monitors from other ionization monitoring systems.
Interested organizations must possess existing capabilities in
manufacturing, marketing and support services in the domestic
marketplace. Any organization with interests in the above mentioned
areas must respond with a written statement of intent which addresses,
in detail, the following: (1) Must provide a description of the
organization's business, business goals, and a description of the Board
of Directors, Officers, and technical staff; (2) must demonstrate a
strong and successful background in radiation instrumentation,
manufacturing, and sales; (3) must describe technical expertise related
to radiation detection instrumentation; (4) must describe and
demonstrate manufacturing capabilities relevant to radiation
instrumentation; (5) must describe and demonstrate marketing
capabilities relevant to radiation instrumentation; (6) must show
financial resources (e.g., annual report) and motivation for
participating in this program. The statement must address this
information in detail or the organization will not be considered as a
potential licensee. The statement must be postmarked within five
calendar days of the date of this notice. (233) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0006 19960822\A-0006.SOL)
