ELECTRONIC COMMERCE/ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE IMPLEMENTATION POC Debbie Childress, (205) 955-6946, Kathy Mellgren (205) 876-7599, and Mary Fersch, (205) 955-7598, e-mail PROCBPM.redstone.army.mil/Business Process Manager, Lumis Culver, (205) 842-0749. The Army Materiel Command (AMC) will implement Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) in December 1996 utilizing the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) X12 3050 version. This system will allow for automated dissemination of procurement information to participating trading partners via (the Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) architecture and Value Added Networks (VANs) and Value Added Services (VASs)) the Federal Acquisition Computer Network (FACNET). During FY95 AMC purchased approximately $15B worth of goods and services. Frequently purchased federal supply classes are as follows: 1005, 1015, 1305, 1315, 1370, 1430, 2530, 2540, 2610, 5430, 5820, 5855, 5895, 5962 and 6150. Each business entity who intends to do business with the federal government must use ANSI X.12 transaction set 838 to register as a Federal Government Trading Partner. Centralized registration will standardize registration procedures across all agencies, eliminate redundancy, and provide a common method for gathering information on trading partners. Companies should begin the registration process as soon as possible to prevent any delays in the EDI system. To initiate the trading partner registration process, call 1-800-EDI-3414 (e-mail dodedi@acq.osd.mil). For additional information, contact: The Electronic Commerce Office, 511 Leesburg Pike, Suite 9104, Attn: DoD Electronic Commerce Information Center, Falls Church, Virginia 22041.
