The system should include configurable expert triggers which will allow the trace to be copied to disk and/or stopped when an expert trigger is tripped----Distributed Sniffer:The Distributed Sniffers must process the same qualities as the Portable Sniffers. In addition, they shall:- be able to be configured and retain Locally Administered Addresses.- use efficient Wide Area Network protocols to communicate between the manager and distributed agents. SNMP or RMON are not acceptable- to efficiently operate on a WAN with over 1000 file servers, management devices and network printers.- use IP as the transport- allow processing to take place on the distributed server. Only screen updated should be sent to the console- operate over IBM source routing bridges - allow remote processing of data captured (screen updates, keep alive packets, and keyboard commands) from the Network to the central console.- protocol forcing for tunneled environments (auto recognition of higher level protocols)- synchronize time between remote units and centralized management console- management console support of Windows 95=, Windows NT, UNIX Solaris, HP-UX and NetView for AIX.- support for switch roving to control up to 16 networks per remote Sniffer- trigger for EXPERT located events (duplicate address, physical errors) that can be automatically saved to disk----Hardware Requirements: The only known product that meets SSA's requirements is the Network General certified DOLCH Special Configuration as follows: Portable, 100 MHz Pentium CPU, EISA Bus, 101 key board, RAM upgrade from 16MBto 32MB RAM, 16KB Primary and 512K Secondary RAM Cache, 1.0GB SCSI Fixed harddrive, 1.44MB 3.5'' floppy disk drive, Adaptec 7870 PCI SCSI Chipset on board,2 serial ports (16550 UART) 1 parallel port, 2 open full length/full heightEISA Slots, 1 open full length/full height PCI slot, 1 open half length/fullheight PCI slot, 1 shared full length/full height EISA or PCI slot, 250 wattpower supply, 50Hz/60Hz operation, 90/240V auto sensing auto switching, dualpush-pull cooling fans, 640x480x256 SVGA TFT active matrix color, 10.4''diagonal screen with 1.7 million colors, 40MS response, 60:1 contrast ratio, viewing angle 90 degrees, external resolution: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768,640x480 simultaneous display on external CRT, DOS 6.2, padded nylon carryingcase with side pouch. NOTE: ALL SUGGESTED EQUIPMENT MUST BE CERTIFIED BY NETWORK GENERAL FOR SNIFFER APPLICATIONS. Vendors capable of providing equivalent products that comply with the above listed mandatory requirements are invited to submit complete information--including product descriptions, pricing, technical brochures/literature andGSA schedules (if applicable)--about their product to this office by COB09/03/96. Please refer to SNIFFER/JB. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR PRODUCT INFORMATION ONLY! This is not a request for proposal (RFP). No open market contract award will be made on the basis of responses received; however, information will be used in SSA's assessment of capable products from open-market vendors and GSA schedule vendors. The Government does not intend to pay for information received. (0235)
