COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 26,1996 PSA#1666Department of the Navy, Carderock Division Headquarters, Naval Surface
Warfare Center, Bethesda, MD 20084-5000 A -- FEASIBILITY OF PROCESSES TO REMOVE DISSOLVED COPPER AND ZINC FROM
SEAWATER SOL N6153396Q1205 DUE 091096 POC Contract Specialist: Fran
Cooley 301-227-5669; Contracting Officer: 301-227-1113. The Naval
Surface Warfare Cneter Carderock Division is investigating the
feasibility of processes to remove dissolved copper and zinc from
seawater down to low levels (less than three parts per billion). The
removal system will be used to process effluent captured with ship's
underwater hulls painted with copper/zinc based paints are cleaned to
remove fouling. The goal is to return the effluent to the receiving
waters with copper and zinc concentrations at least as low as three to
four parts per billion. The goal is also to develop a system which is
capable of processing at flow rates of at least 200 gallons per
minute. Particulates will be filtered with a filter of pore size of no
less than eleven microns prior to removal of dissolved heavy metals.
Technologies other than those in current commercial use may be
proposed, but evaluation preference will be given to methods that are
currently being used in commercial copper and zinc removal. This
requirement falls under the new Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The
award is expected to be a firm fixed price between CDNSWC'S estimated
cost range from $25,000.00 to $50,000.00. (0235) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0005 19960823\A-0005.SOL)
