10 -- XM982 EXTENDED RANGE PROJECTILE WITH LOW RATE PRODUCTION OPTIONS POC Phillip E. The US Army Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center is seeking qualified sources who can respond to a request for proposal for a four year (FY98-01) Engineering & Manufacturing Development (E&MD) Effort with two option years (FY02-03) of low rate production. The XM982 E&MD program calls for the development of a projectile that will provide an extended range capability in excess of 40 km. Extended range capability is provided by the application of an aerodynamically streamlined projectile with a unique base burner assembly in the aft end and a high thrust rocket motor in the forward ogive space. The XM982 will accommodate the same lethality as the current M864, Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munition (DPICM), presently in production.
