COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 27,1996 PSA#1667National Cancer Institute, Research Contracts Branch, TCS 6120
Executive Blvd, EPS/RM 603 Bethesda, MD 20892-7220 A -- OPERATION OF A REGISTRY OF TUMORS IN LOWER ANIMALS SOL
NCI-CB-77021-34 POC Yolanda Young, Contract Specialist, 301-496-8620
Dorothy Coleman, Contracting Officer, 301-496-8620. The Office of the
Director, Division of Cancer Biology, within the National Cancer
Institute, has a continuing requirement for the ''Operation of a
Registry of Tumors in Lower Animals.'' The current contract is with the
Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. with a subcontract to the
George Washington University Medical Center. During the past 30 years,
the Registry of Tumors in Lower Animals (RTLA) has developed into a
unique resource which facilitates the study of neoplasms and related
disorders in cold-blooded vertebrate and invertebrate animals by
serving as a centralized repository of pathological materials and
related data, i.e., a specimen repository, a diagnostic center, and an
information center. The RTLA maintains the premier database in the
world on neoplasms in lower animals. Tumor specimens from field studies
in lower animals may be submitted to the RTLA for pathological
indentification and evaluation, thereby, serving to enhance the
acquisition of unique specimens and expand overall knowledge in this
area. The RTLA also serves as a clearinghouse for information on tumors
in lower animals, answering requests for information from scientists
and others all over the world. The RTLA is becoming increasingly
important because of its relevance to many areas of toxicology
research, for example, the development of alternative methods to the
animal bioassay (in particular, the use of the fish bioassay for
testing chemicals that are suspect carcinogens), and the validation of
interspecies extrapolation. This is a recompetition of an existing
contract for similar work. RFP-NCI-CB-77021-34 will be issued on or
about 9/9/96. The government anticipates 1 contract will be awarded on
an incrementally funded basis for a five year period. The Standard
Industrial Classification Code (SIC) is 8731. No collect calls
accepted. (0236) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0002 19960826\A-0002.SOL)
