SOL NFFN1130600034MW DUE 092596 POC Mamie Wandick (816) 426-6823, Ext. 237 The government intends to procure services to provide, maintain and enhance weekly updates of stranding data, improve data collection, and increase the number of necropsies conducted over a one year period (12 months) for the entire Florida coastline. This project will help identify causal factors related to these mortalities. Over 1995 and 1996, the number of sea turtle strandings in Florida increased considerably. The number ofdocumented strandings along Florida's southwest coast increased approximately three-fold over recent year's numbers. This project will support the Florida STSSN to ensure that weekly up dates of stranding data can be forwarded to the NMFS in a timely and accurate manner. Summary reports detailing bi-monthly strandings by region and species shall be prepared and disseminated monthly. Stranding kits shall be distributed to STSSN members, and necropsy training sessions shall be conductedin order to train STSSN volunteers. Histopathology work ups shall be conducted on a sub-sample of all necropsied turtles. This procurement is a proposed sole source. If there are no other qualified vendors the procurement will be issued to Florida Department of Environmental Protection, St. Petersburg, Florida.
