The National Cancer Institute (NCI) plans to procure on a sole source basis under authority of FAR 6.302-1 an AKTA Explorer Liquid Chromatography System, AKTA Explorer Powermate, and Frac 900 from Pharmacia Biotech Inc., 800 Centennial Ave., Piscataway, NJ 08855. It is essential that the System have the ability to purify proteins from complex starting materials such as tissue homogenates, cell lysates and recombinant protein expression systems. The liquid chromatography system must be able to perform separations based on a variety of sample characteristics including size, hydrophobicity and net surface charge which retaining biologic activity. The system must automatically and continuously record throughout each chromatographic run the following parameters; flow rate, autoscaled UV signal, actual and programmed conductivity eluant pH, system pressure, accumulated time of run, valve positions, fraction collector activity. Based upon our knowledge of the market, the Pharmacia AKTA Explorer System is the only liquid chromatography system which meets all of these requirements and develops purification schemes for new IGF-1 receptor signaling molecules. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, however, if any interested party believes they can meet the avove, they may submit a statement of capabilities. Information furnished shall include enough materials, in sufficient detail, to perform a proper evaluaiton of their ability to perform and must be received within 20 days of the publication of this notice.
