The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), intends to issue a Request For Quotation (RFQ) under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP) for a study in Corrosion of Firearms. The objective the study will ideally achieve include: 1) Identifying which environmental parameters are most important in assessing corrosion in aqueous media for various conditions; 2) Developing a reliable protocol for asessing the length of submersion of firearms comprised of various alloy, costing a plating constituents and exposed to a variety of environments; and 3) Assessing the precision with which corrosion ''dating'' can be performed by evaluating the corrosion characteristics exhibited by weapons submerged in a variety of (known) hydrologically distinct environmental conditions. Disabled firearms will be provided by the FBI. The SIC for this is 8731 ''Commercial Physical and Biological Research.''
