Robin Richards, 703-784-5822 x232. The Marine Corps Systems Command
has a requirement for a lightweight, hand-held fresh water purification
filter (TWPF) that will individually provide a 4-6 man team of
servicemen with the capability to use whatever available fresh water is
found in remote, world-wide, field locations for maintaining proper
hydration. This requirement is intended to be a commercial item
directed toward the procurement of a mult-individual, high volume
device that will primarily see use in third world or under-developed
countries having highly questionable water sources. The TWPF will
protect personnel from cyst-forming protozoa and bacteria, making the
water safe for human consumption, while reducing the quantity of
turbidity that may be found in raw water sources. The TWPF system shall
include the following peripherals required for operation: a pumping
mechanism, filter media(s), inlet and outlet hoses, inlet hose
pre-strainer, inlet hose float, manufacturer's instructions, carrying
case, spare filter(s), filter cleaning device, and filter measuring
gauge. It is the Marine Corps' intention to award a firm-fixed price
contract from a negotiated procurement. When responding to this
request, reference solicitation M67854-97-R-2000, and forward name and
mailing address to the point of contact and address listed above.
