The National Science Foundation (NSF) is soliciting proposals for survey design, conduct, data processing, and analysis capabilities to collect information on persons receiving research doctorate awards from U.S. universities, and to monitor their subsequent labor force experiences. This new effort will be referred to as the ''Doctorate Data Project.'' It combines the conduct of what have been heretofore two surveys awarded separately: an annual census of every individual receiving a research doctorate in the U.S. (the Survey of Earned Doctorates), and a biennial sample survey of U.S. Ph.D. awardees (the Survey of Doctorate Recipients). In addition to the normal tasks required in the two surveys, the contractor will be required to maintain and update historical data files actively used by the Federal sponsors and other users inside and outside of government. The funding agencies may also require new data collection and analytical tasks under this solicitation. NSF expects to award a contract for a 5-year period (1997-2002).
