ASSOCIATION OF OLD CROWS (AOC) ELECTRO-OPTICAL INFRARED SYSTEMS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY CONFERENCE POC Association of Old Crows Convention Department, (703) 549-1600. The Association of Old Crows (AOC) will conduct a Government/Industry Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Systems for the 21st Century Conference on 23 - 24 October 1996 at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, Adelphi MD. The theme of the conference will address the proposition that EO/IR threat systems have been responsible for more aircraft loses in the past 25 years than RF threat systems. The changing geopolitical environment has resulted in an ill-defined enemy with increased instability and a higher likelihood of unannounced or unprovoked attack. This situation has strengthened the need for EO/IR protection systems for air, land, and sea platforms. At the same time, advancements in EO/IR technology have enabled the systems designers to design and develop the necessary subsystems and systems to provide an acceptable level of protection. The conference will focus on this changing environment and the programs which are developing systems and technology to meet this critical need. In addition, the conference will also address fusion of information to improve system performance. Mr. Tony Grieco, Deputy Director, Electronic Warfare, Office of the Director of Strategic and Tactical Systems, Office of the Secretary of Defense, will chair the conference. Topics will include the following: 1) OSD and Associated Service Plans: OSD and service near and mid-term requirement plans, to include both systems and air vehicles. Presentations will include papers addressing the OSD IRCM Plan as well as a briefing covering SOCOM activities. 2) EO/IR CM Systems: Advanced countermeasures systems, to include airborne (ATIRCM, DIRCM). A paper will also be presented on MATES by NRL and ship defense programs. EO/IR Technology: Technology development activities and plans of the services and DARPA. Papers will cover such topics as: LIFE, Large A/C systems, Mid IR Laser program, and Advanced IRCM Lasers. 3) Advanced Warning Systems: Missile Warning systems for conventional and future land, air, and sea vehicles. Topics will address: CMWS, F-22 System and Air Force developments, Naval shipboard warning systems, Army ground vehicle warning, AAR-54 by SOCOM and the AVR-2 by CECOM. 4) Advanced Expendable Systems: Program plans for EO/IR expendables, to include fixed, free-fall, or towed multi-spectral devices. Papers will include: C-17 System for Bosnia, ASTE, Army developments by Picatinny Arsenal, Navy shipboard expendables, and a briefing by the NSWC, Crane. The conference will be at the SECRET, U.S. ONLY classification level and is considered to be the most comprehensive forum yet undertaken for industry and government to address these critical, important, and far-reaching issues regarding current and future EO/IR systems. For further information, contact the AOC Convention Department at (703) 549-1600.
