COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 10,1996 PSA#1676Commander, U.S. Army Missile Command, Acquisition Center, Redstone
Arsenal, Al 35898-5280 70 -- BLANK CD-ROMS SOL DAAH01-96-R-0030 POC Julie Davis, Contract
Specialist, (205) 842-6042, AMSMI-AC-CFEA; Kathy B. Ray, Contracting
Officer, (205) 842-7441. Synopsis #4064-96. Amendment - Blank CD-ROMs.
Reference Synopsis #4063-96, date posted 30 Aug 96, Solicitation
#DAAH03-96-R-0030. The purpose of this amendment is to answer questions
submitted by vendors requesting further clarification. Following is a
list of questions and answers. 1. Can you verify that the blank CD-ROMs
specified are recordable CDs (CD-Rs)? Answer: Yes, they are recordable.
2. Are the CD-ROMS going to be recorded onto more than once? Answer:
No. 3. Do you need to print on the CD-ROM? Answer: Yes. 4. Can you
verify that you are interested in procuring recordable CDs suitable for
thermal printing? Answer: They will be suitable for thermal printing.
5. Is the delivery schedule firm, or can it be adjusted to accommodate
the current market shortage? Answer: The delivery schedule is firm;
however, if no offeror can meet the required delivery schedule, the
government will consider an extension. 6. Your specification requires
a CD with lacquer finish (this is presumably a Kodak specification).
However, you want the end user to use the CD-R with a Rimage printer.
Rimage purchases Mitsui CD-R media to use with their printer, and
Mitsui media has a finish called ''Data Shield'' which is different
than Kodak's lacquer. Can you please confirm or deny our suspicion that
you need DataShield and not lacquer? Answer: The requirement is for
blank CD's with glossy finish. Currently 3M, Sony, Kodak, and Pinnacle
blank CD's are being used with the Rimage printers. These are only
some of the brand names that produce a glossy finish on CD's. 7. In
order to better estimate freight expense, what are the ship to
locations for line items 0001 and 0002? We would also appreciate
knowing the quantities for these respective ship to locations. Answer:
Shipping Instructions are as follows: Ship 5250 each, blank CD-ROMs,
5250 each cardboard mailers, and 100 each Jewel boxes to: Rock Island
Arsenal, IL. 61299-5000. Ship 975 each, blank CD-ROMs and 975 each,
cardboard mailers to the following addresses: Picatinny Arsenal, NJ

Tobyhanna, PA 18466-5075; Tooele, UT 84074-5004. Option quantities will
be delivered to various CONUS locations, which are not presently known.
8. Most bulk is packed 100/spindle, is this a possibility or must it be
75/spindle only? Answer: The requirement is for 75 CDs/spindle. 9. Line
Item 0003, if exercised, will it be 1500 CD-Rs w/mailers to 55
different ship to locations? Are there minimum order quantities
throughout the CONUS on these line items? Answer: Line Items 0003
through 0057 are option quantities of 1500 per line item, totaling
82,500, if all options are exercised. The ''ship to'' addresses are
unknown for the option quantities. The minimum quantity per ship to
address is 75 each. The minimum quantity per option exercise is 1500
each. However, the 1500 each may have multiple ship to addresses. The
closing date of September 16, 1996 (4:30 p.m. CDT) remains unchanged.
