Shariati This is a modification to the Commerce Business Daily (CBD)
announcement which was published on August 12, 1996 (page 15) for
radioactive waste disposal and the modification which was published on
August 28, 1996 (page 9). The original CBD was published as a combined
synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with
the format in Subpart 12.6. The solicitation number is 53SBNB6C9277.
The modification published on August 28, 1996 extended the date that
responses are due. This modification is to identify questions which
were received regarding this requirement and provide all interested
parties with the questions and the responses. Question 1: For each
individual article or disposal package, the following minimum
information is desired - Present packaging type, methodology and
specification. Answer 1: All packages shall be strong, tight
containers, i.e.: Contractor's supplied Sealand container or
equivalent. Shipments will be LSA, exclusive use. Question 2: For each
individual article or disposal package, the following minimum
information is desired - Individual radio-isotopes and activities per
isotope (curie or SI units). Answer 2: less than 1 mCi, Co60, Mn54.
Question 3: For each individual article or disposal package, the
following minimum information is desired - Weights, dimensions, special
handling requirements for non-standard packages. Answer 3: 55 gal.
drums are less than 1500 lbs. each. Question 4: For each individual
article or disposal package, the following minimum information is
desired - Dose Rates, on contact and at one meter (mrem/hr or
equivalent SI units). Answer 4: Average less than 0.2 mrem/hr. contact.
Question 5: For each individual article or disposal package, the
following minimum information is desired - Contamination levels
(dpm/100 cm square) of packages and inner articles with high levels of
contamination. Answer 5: The external, accessible surfaces of all
items (bags, drums, pipes, etc.) is less than 300 dpm/100 cm sq. beta
(no alpha). There are no inner articles with high levels of
contamination. Question 6: For each individual article or disposal
package, the following minimum information is desired - Physical
description of contents (i.e. Lab Trash - paper, plastic, etc., Sealed
or check sources, neutron or radiography devices, soil, debris,
luminous dials, smoke detectors ..). Answer 6: As described in the
combined synopsis/solicitation published in the CBD August 12, 1996.
Question 7: For each individual article or disposal package, the
following minimum information is desired - Additional description of
potential hazards/characteristics (EPA listed/characteristic, lead,
liquids, infectious, etiologic, biological, etc.) Answer 7: There are
no EPA listed/characteristic materials, lead, infectious, etiologic, of
biological material in any of the shipments. Question 8: For each
individual article or disposal package, the following minimum
information is desired - Waste Classification and Stability required
per 10 CFR 61, Neuclear Regulatory Commission's Branch Technical
Positions and applicable disposal site licenses and acceptance
criteria. Answer 8: All are well within LLRW class A criteria for
radioactivity. Liquids, e.i. oil and aqueous liquids must be stabilized
or alternatively may be incinerated; they conform to incinerable
criteria. Question 9: CLIN 0001, waste profile and MSDS for wax/shot
mixture and waste analytical data, if available (i.e. Full TCLP, Totals
for RCRA metals/organics/volatiles/semi-volatiles, . . ) Answer 9: CLIN
0001, The steel shot is carbon steel. The was is paraffin hydrocarbon,
with 130 F melting point and combustible at greater than 600 F. It is
non-toxic/non-hazardous. The wax is high purity and has not been used
in any chemical process. MSDS will be provided. This modification
extends the date responses are due. Responses are due by 3:00 pm local
time on September 16, 1996. Offers or modifications to offers received
at the address above after the exact time specified for receipt of
offers will not be considered. Requests for a copy of a solicitation
will be disregarded since the original CBD and this modification
