Fax (703) 696-2208, E-Mail afrederick@darpa.mil. The Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Information Systems Office will be
releasing a BAA approximately 23 Sept 1996, for pre-proposals for
research and new technology development related to pre-proposals for
research and new technology development related to advanced simulation
techniques in support of joint training simulations. The Advanced
Simulation Technology Thrust (ASTT) is a core technology development
program designed to make significant and far reaching advances in the
state of the art of Advanced Distributed Simulation, especially as they
apply to large scale simulation systems such as the Joint Simulation
System (JSIMS). Prior to release of the BAA, a Program Overview will be
held at the Holiday Inn, 6515 International Drive, Flamingo Room,
Orlando, Florida, Monday, September 16, 1996, 1800-2000. The Overview
is open to all. Reservations are not required. The Program Overview is
intended to provide a brief to industry on priority technology
development areas and answer specific questions regarding those
technologies. Details on the current set of JSIMS technology
requirements can be found on the JSIMS Homepage at www.jsims.mil
(current version of the technology list & ASTT PM Guidance Document)
under the ASTT Section. Additionally, a mail reflector has been
established to keep the community informed of the BAA and overall
program status. To subscribe send an email message to
darpa-astt@sc.ist.ucf.edu with the following text in the body of the
message: Subscribe darpa-astt (your name). Additional information may
also be found under the ASTT pages at www.darpa.mil/iso (program
related information). Program Mission: The Advanced Simulation
Technology Thrust (ASTT) program is DARPA's primary research and
development program for the maturation of the technologies of platform
level Advanced Distributed Simulation (ADS), as envisioned and
initiated under DARPA's Synthetic Theater of War (STOW) program. The
primary mission of the ASTT program is to work in concert with the
Joint Simulation System (JSIMS) program to mature the technologies of
platform based simulation to a point where they can be transferred to
JSIMS program for use in meeting it's IOC and FOC technical goals.
Program Goals: To identify and mature the highest priority, most
challenging platform based ADS technologies facing large scale
simulation development programs, to mature selected technologies to
such a level, and within a timeframe, so that they can be used by the
JSIMS to meet its technical program goals, to mature these technologies
in an open-systems format to make them available to the wide number of
contractors participating in the JSIMS program and the ADS simulation
community at large, and to develop a technology transfer program to
ensure these technologies are available, and useable by the JSIMS
program to meet it's FOC goals. Note: The JSIMS Homepage reflects a
draft list of technology areas of interest. It should be expected that
the list will be modified prior to release of the BAA. Proposed
Schedule: The currently planned schedule for this effort is: Project
briefing to industry: 16 Sept 96. Request for Pre-proposals (CBD
announcement): 23 Sept 96 (approximate 30 day response time). Awards:
Jan 1997. Written requests for information can be made by fax to Mr.
Jamie Gardner (703) 845-6810 or by surface mail to: Institute for
Defense Analyses, 1801 North Beauregard, Alexandria, Virginia
