Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) will host a ``Symposium on Thermophysical Properties-Metalworking Industry Needs and Resources'' at CTC's Manufacturing Technology Facility located in Johnstown, PA, on October 22-23, 1996. This symposium is sponsored by the National Center for Excellence in Metalworking Technology (NCEMT) as part of its mission to assure that accurate thermophysical data are available or can be obtained for present and future metalworking processes related to Navy needs. Concurrent Technologies Corporation operates the NCEMT for the U.S. Navy Manufacturing Technology (MANTECH) Program. This symposium will provide an excellent opportunity for process modelers who rely on thermophysical properties (TP) to share their TP requirements; organizations who generate TP data will also be available to present their capabilities. Speakers from the Navy, industry, and academia will describe state-of-the-art measurement techniques, predictive capabilities, and databases for storage and retrieval of TP data. They will also describe the thermophysical properties needed to support metalworking processes for Navy/Department of Defense and industry components. Presentations will include: Need for TP Data and Effect of Data Uncertainties on Numerical Solutions in Metalworking, Development of Computerized Databases for TP Data and Generation of Reliable Data, Role of Reference Standards in TP Measurements, and TP Measurements in the Mushy and Molten States. A copy of symposium materials will be provided to all participants, as well as a tour of CTC's Manufacturing Technology Facility and its Thermophysical Properties Laboratory for all participating U.S. citizens.
