Emily Smith, (508) 233-4368, (Site Code DAAK60). The U.S. Army Soldier
Systems Command (SSCOM), Natick, MA, is conducting a MARKET RESEARCH
to identify sources interested in competing for a combined Research and
Development (12 months R&D, 4 months testing) / Production (3 years)
contract for the Army's new water-based field laundry. The Command is
searching for technology in the commercial market that may meet the
requirements of this program. Respondents to this announcement will
help the government make a determination as to industry interest and
capabilities in this field. The laundry must process between 375 and
450 pounds of clothing per hour (dry to dry). Two soldiers will operate
the laundry for a ten hour shift, two shifts per day. The laundry must
operate on alternating current (AC), 3 phase (120/208 volts 50/60
hertz) supplied from both standard Army power units and commercial
power sources (foreign or domestic). The maximum power draw shall not
exceed 60 kilowatts, 30 kilowatts is desired. The laundry must recycle
water to operate effectively in water scarce environments. Daily water
consumption shall not exceed 500 gallons. The laundry will be mounted
on a standard Army trailer and be capable of cross country and limited
rough terrain travel. The laundry will operate in the field in
temperatures between 33 degrees F and 90 degrees F. Operations above or
below these temperatures will be conducted inside an Army shelter. The
Army intends to buy 211 laundries at a maximum rate of 36 per year. A
draft Statement of Work is available upon request. Interested parties

Acquisition Directorate, at the Soldier Systems Command. Respondents
must submit within 10 days following publication of this synopsis
acknowledgement of their interest in the aforementioned effort.
Responses should include information on existing capabilities / systems
that may be related to this effort that will aid the government in
making a determination as to what capabilities/systems exist in
industry that may support a successful execution of this proposed
contract. In addition, if applicable, identification as a small, woman
owned, or socially and economically disadvantaged business is
