sauter (810) 574-8132 The proposed acquisition is for the first year
quantiti ES of Bradley A3 upgrade vehicles. these vehicles will be
upgrades of Bradley A2 vehicles to the A3 configurat ion. the A3
upgrade engineering and manufacturing devel opment (EMD) effort is
currently ongoing under contract DAAE07-94-C-0456 with United defense
L.P. (udlp). udlp is completing the first of eight prototype A3
vehicles. There will be extensive testing of these prototype vehi cles.
the EMD contract has a performance period through October 99. the first
year lrip quantity is 27 vehicles, with an option for an additional 18
vehicles. the fir St year lrip quantity will be added as a new
requiremen T under the ongoing A0-A@ remanufacture contract with U
nited defense. the A3 includes lethality improvements o Ver present
Bradley vehicles through advanced target HA ndoff and acquision
provided by the commanders independ ent viewer (CIV) and improved
Bradley acquisition syste m (BAS) as well as improved fire control. a
position an D navigation (pos/nav) system, as well as night vision
equipment will be provided in the vehicle. survivabilit Y equipment and
innovations include: applique armor cov ering the top surface of the
vehicle and providing NBC protection for the squad. the A3 command and
control IM provements will provide increaded situational awareness,
digital tactical information transmission/reception c apabilities, and
compatibitility with combat radio nets, and reduced work load. the A3
vehicle control and OPE ration system (VCOS) improvements will utilize
an integ rated electronics system. the electronics system will S upport
high resolution tactical and video displays, bui LT in testing and
efficient system upgrades of new Tech nology. the Bradley A3 will be an
upgraded Bradley capa ble of meeting the current and projected threat
into th E 21ST Century. the proposed effort will be awarded on a firm
fixed price basis to United defense L.P. (udlp). Udlp is the developer
and sole producer of the Bradley series of vehicles. it is necessary
to award the lrip E ffort to udlp to maintain the current Bradley
engineeri NG and manufacturing base. also, udlp is the developer of the
