C -- CONSTRUCTION OF A SHELTER AROUND HARRIS DX-600 TRANSMITTER POC Contracting Officer/Herman Shaw, Ph: (202) 205-8412, FAX (202) 205-5466 This is a notice of intent to modify an existing major subsystem contract that consists of highly specialized equipment, as noted herein, on a sole source basis. Concerns having the ability to perform the required work noted below are requested to give written notification within fifteen (15) days from the date of this synopsis. The U.S. Information Agency (USIA) proposes to negotiate and award a modification to Contract No. IA2121- C4234482 with Harris Corporation Broadcast, Harris Allied Broadcast Division, 3200 Wismann Lane, Quincy, IL 62301. The proposed modification will be issued under the authority of 41 U.S.C.253(c)(1) as implemented by FAR 6.302-1, Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy the Agency requirements. Under the existing contract, Harris Corporation is required to make significant changes to the existing building to accommodate the DX-600 (600 kW) transmitter and to perform integration work at the site. Under the proposed modification, Harris Corporation will be required to design and construct a shelter at an adjacent location within the required schedule. It is mandatory that the shelter meets the electrical requirements and restrictions of the Harris DX-600 transmitter. Harris Corporation developed the physical and electrical requirements and restrictions and knows the integrating requirements of the Harris DX-600 transmitter that must be incorporated into the design of a shelter around the transmitter within the required schedule. Harris Corporation presently has responsibility for much of the work associated with installing, integrating, commissioning and testing the DX-600 transmitter. Further, Harris Corporation has the capability to effectively design and build a shelter around its DX-600 transmitter and minimize any redesign and interference costs. This is not a formal solicitation and concerns that respond shall furnish detailed data concerning their capabilities to perform the requirement as specified herein. This notice may represent the only official notice of such a solicitation. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered. See numbered Note 22. (0271)
