The sources sought ''Shipboard Waste Management Program'' issued on 30 September 1996 is corrected to read as follows: Sources are being sought to develop fire retardant paints that do not generate halogenated combustion products when subjected to fire conditions. The paints developed must meet all the requirements of the proposed draft specification MIL-PRF-24596A(SH). A summary of the requirements are: A) Paints shall be free of halogenated ingredients, B) Reformulation shall be based on commercially available materials, and C) Paints shall be applied by brush, roller and spray. This is not an RFP. Responses will be evaluated and used by the Government to formulate the Governments acquisition approach. While an open competition for fire retardant paints is presently anticipated, the government may decide, based on responses to this announcement to limit competition or conduct a sole source procurement. Responses shall be due in writing no later than 30 days after the issue date of this synopsis. They will be kept U. S. Navy Confidential and will not be binding on the government or the contractor. Respondents may be invited to discuss the program if further clarifications are necessary. Any procurement will be separately synopsized in the Commerce Business Daily.
