The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is requesting information on the availability of athletic shoes for male and female inmates. The BOP provides inmates incarcerated in Federal Correctional Facilities the opportunity to purchase athletic shoes from institution commissaries. The BOP is exploring the possibility of establishing a national contract for purchase of the athletic shoes sold in institution commissaries. The general description of the shoe is a cross trainer type, allowing for use during a variety of athletic activities (court use, running, jogging, walking, etc.). The shoe must provide support, cushioning, durability, and may be made from leather, nylon, vinyl, or a combination of materials. It may NOT be a ''Pump'' or ''Air'' type shoe or otherwise contain cavities which could hold contraband. The shoe will be white in color and available for males in whole and half (1/2) sizes, from six (6) through eleven and one-half (11-1/2), whole sizes from twelve (12) through sixteen (16). The shoe will be available in widths of D, 2E, and 4E. For females the shoe will be available in whole and half (1/2) from five (5) through eleven (11), widths of (regular) B and (wide) D. The BOP requests a sample of the athletic shoe in Ladies size seven (7) and Mens size ten (10) for examination. Information and samples should be submitted no later than December 1, 1996 and addressed to: Federal Bureau of Prisons, National Contracts and Policy Section, Room 500-6, 320 First Street, NW, Washington, DC 20534, ATTN: D.
