be equal to or better than the Formech Incorprated FM1 machine when
equipped with the pre-stretch option in respect to the following
features. SIZE: The size of this machine shall be such to accommodate
vacuum forming sheet stock up to 54 inches by 26 inches and allow a
working area within that sheet stock of up to 52.1 inches by 24.3
inches. The machine must be capable of a depth of draw of at leasst 16
inches and capable of handling and forming material up to a thickness
of .25 inches. The overall size of the equipment shall be no more than
54 inches in height, and no more than 84 inches in width and depth. The
machine shall weigh no more than 2,000 pounds. HEATERS: The machine
shall use thermostatically controlled infra-red ceramic heaters.
CONTROLS: The machine will have at least the following controls: Heater
timer, zoned thermostatic heater controls, heater indicator lights,
tooling table counterbalance adjustment, automatic leveling of heated
plastic sheet by means of positive air pressure to promote even heating
and prevent unwanted stretching, reverse blow control for removal of
formed sheet from tooling, manual pre-stretch controls, and quick
release material clamps. OPERATION: The machine shall function at least
as simply as follows, sheet material to be formed is clamped in place
on the open top of the machine, the heater assembly is manually brought
over the material and turned on, as the material is heating the
automatic leveling device adjusts air pressure under the material to
prevent it from sagging and stretching, when the timer times out the
heater is manually moved away from over the material and the
counterbalanced tooling table is manually raised into contact with the
heated plastic sheet and into sealing peripheral contact which allows
the effective application of vacuum. On cooling of the molded part,
the machine provides a positive pressure to assist removal of the
molded part from the tooling after which the tooling table is lowered,
and the finished stock removed. POWER REQUIREMENTS: The machine shall
operate on 60 Hz, three phase, 208/220 volt current. It shall draw no
more than 20 kW and require no more than 90 amp service (30 amp per
leg). AIR REQUIREMENTS: The pre-stretch option requires a supply of
clean, dry shop air. Air provided by Rock Island Arsenal to the
machine. REDUCING PLATE: An optional reducing plate shall be furnished
to allow economical forming with smaller stock size of rectangular
tray inserts with a finished size of 3 inches high by 12.5 inches wide
by 25.5 inches long. (Approximate opening 20.5 inches by 33.5 inches).
INSTALLATION, SET UP AND TRAINING: Installation, set up and training
shall be provided by the manufacturers personnel at no cost to the Rock
Island Arsenal. Include these costs in the machine cost. Contractor to
provide their standard commercial warranty. 1 EA. FOB: Destination,
