842-6553 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the
Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) located in
Atlanta, Georgia are planning a major storage operation for human
specimens, including sera, cells and tissue, and are interested in any
known methods (such as labels, application directly on vials, etc.)
for applying barcode labeling to glass or plastic vials (0.5- to 2.0-mL
sizes) that are currently being stored frozen, at temperatures from -80
to -130 C, with most vials stored in vapor phase liquid nitrogen (-130
C). Specimens must be relabeled WITHOUT undergoing thawing. Relabeling
must be accomplished with the assurance that the new label or other
means of identification will remain attached in perpetuity. The intent
of this notice to determine methods available for labeling frozen
vials. A competitive procurement resulting from information received
may or may not be accomplished. Please provide possible solution
