The satellite space segment service is to provide continuous contact with an operational fleet of transportation cargo trucks. There currently is a network of satellite earth station equipment located throughout the Continental United States. The earth stations use the satellite space segment as the method of linking all the sites together. This will allow the DOE/AL to maintain communication control of the operational fleet. This acquisition shall currently require the Contractor to provide 8-112Kbps links in support of the communication network. An upgrade is scheduled for an estimated date of April 1997, which shall require the contractor to provide a reduced link size to 8-56Kbps links, which shall also meet the specified requirements. The contractor shall adhere to the NTIA, FCC Chapter 8.2, 37, 38, 39, and Annex B, dated May 1992, in accordance with the Technical Requirements.
