COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 16,1996 PSA#1701REGIONAL METRIC TOWN MEETINGS MOVE ``TOWARD A METRIC AMERICA,'' SERIES
CONTINUES OCT. 18-19 IN CHICAGO POC Gerard C. Iannelli (301) 975-3690.
The Department of Commerce and the Federal Interagency Council on
Metric Policy present the fourth of six regional Metric Dialogues
October 18-19, 1996, at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of
Business Downtown Conference Center at 450 North City Front Plaza
Drive. At each meeting, participants have the opportunity to hear from
experts on the benefits of using the metric system to increase our
global competitiveness, commercialize new technologies, and enhance the
job skills of America's workforce. Open discussions will probe critical
metrication issues. The meetings build on the key themes -- trade,
education, and public awareness -- that emerged from the first National
Metric Town Meeting held at the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) March 27-28, 1995. Subsequent Metric Dialogues will
be held in San Jose on November 15-16 and on January 10-11, 1997 in
Dallas. For further information contact the NIST Metric Program on
(301) 975-3690, FAX (301) 948-1416 or email to Metric-prg@nist.gov (via
