Work will include removing approximately 13 miles of treated softwood
ties with cut fasteners and replacing with a combination of concrete
ties and treated hardwood ties with elastic fasteners. Tie replacement
work is to be performed with an automated tie replacement system due
to schedule limitations. Existing slag ballast is to be undercut 6''
below the ties, stockpiled, and replaced with granite ballast. The
track is to be realigned to match a best fit designed alignment and
resurfaced to a high tolerance exceeding Class 6, FRA Track Safety
Standards. The CWR is to be destressed, rewelded with a flash butt weld
process, and profile ground. Restoration work will include rebuilding
turnouts, road crossings, and construction of spur track modifications.
Most replacement materials will be provided to the contractor as
furnished materials. Contractor shall coordinate with the suppliers for
delivery of the materials to meet production schedules, and provide all
labor, equipment, and other materials as necessary to complete this
project as specified. Work is scheduled to be performed in the second
or third quarter of 1997. Cost range with options; 2.0 to 2.5 million.
Qualifications: Contractor must have a minimum of 5 years experience
with projects of a similar type and size, meeting bond and insurance
requirements, and have a demonstrated track record of providing
customer satisfaction for workmanship and performance. Contractor must
demonstrate that personnel and equipment will be available to perform
