This is a request for information (RFI). There is no solicitation available at this time. The Government will not pay for any information received in response to this RFI, nor will the Government compensat any respondent for any costs incurred in developing the information provided to the Government. The Air Force Combat Weather Center (AFCWC) is soliciting information on the latest generation of portable computer systems. We seek those systems which are small, lightweight, and durable, making them strongly suited for deployed operations in field conditions. We are interested in durable as well as ruggedized computers capable of running UNIX and/or DOS/Windows, with the capability to process mathematically intensive scientific applications and display medium to high resolution graphics and imagery. They must also be capable of running the latest generation of office automation software (word processing, databasing, spreadsheets, and graphics). Flat screen technology monitors (e.g., 13 inch or larger screens with reduced depth and weight) are also of interest. Our goal is to entertain demonstrations and operational evaluations to assess each system's ability to satisfy the demanding requirements of worldwide military weather operations.
