A -- TECHNOLOGY FOR ACCESSING AND UPDATING SOURCING DATABASES ON THE INTERNET Contact James Lovejoy, DAMA Industry Project Manager, Textile/Clothing Technology Corporation, 211 Gregson Drive, Cary, NC 27511-7909, TEL: (919)380-2184, FAX: (919)380-2181. Textile/Clothing Technology Corporation (TC)2 is seeking an industrial partner to participate in the maturation and commercialization of a new technology for accessing and updating sourcing databases on the Internet. The technology (code named ``NSDB'') is being developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory as part of the Demand Activated Manufacturing Architecture (DAMA) project. DAMA is the largest project under the American Textile Partnership (AMTEX), a research and development consortium among the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) national laboratories, universities, and the textile industry (fiber/textile/apparel/retail). The DAMA project is managed through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) between DOE and a Research, Education, and Technology Transfer (RETT) organization, that represents the industry partners. For the DAMA project, the RETT is (TC)2. One goal of DAMA is to link the 26,000 companies that comprise the U.S. Integrated Textile Complex (ITC)--from the cotton field to the retail rack--with the National Information Infrastructure (NII). The current NSDB website is an umbrella site or master directory for ITC supply chain sourcing as well as the host server for source information from ITC companies not associated with other databases. With NSDB technology, comprehensive searches can be obtained from the service provider database or from links to commercial providers of sourcing information through Boolean search criteria. Users of this technology can also take advantage of the e-mail and on-line database maintenance tools provided. Industrial partners are being sought to participate in the DAMA partnership to commercialize this technology for the textile/clothing industry. Commercializing partners will also be sought for other fields of application of the database technology. The successful partner will possess the ability to continue the necessary engineering and development for evolving the pilot into a line of products and/or services. Prospective partners must demonstrate a strong background in client/server software development and/or sales; or in database and networking software and/or sales; or a strong marketing position which would allow one to commercialize and distribute the technology. This is not a solicitation for proposals. Any company that is interested in pursuing this opportunity or that wishes to receive more information concerning this program should respond with a brief statement describing the company's technical and marketing expertise, company size and its accessibility to financial and other resources if needed, previous technology transfer experience, and motivation for participation in this partnership opportunity. The statement of interest must be dated within 30 days from the date of this notice. (298)
