Mark Phillips, 203-937-3086 Contractor to supply microelectronic
compliance monitors, communicators, and software for use in a VA
Cooperative Research Study. These items will be leased by VA
Connecticut Healthcare System for the length of this study, and then be
returned to the contractor. The contractor shall be responsible for
replacing any malfunctioning equipment or software. The monitors are
caps that attach to standard medication bottles and contain a
microprocessor that records the date and time of every bottle opening.
The communicators and software will be used to download data from the
monitors to a PC. The software shall be capable of converting
downloaded data to a windows-based program. Data shall be displayed as
calendar plots, dose event lists, and dose time summary for on-screen
review with patients. Software shall be able to encode the compliance
monitors with required information (e.g., patient name, medication,
physician name). The data obtained shall be merged continuously so that
patient data accumulates at each monthly progress session held with the
patient. The units shall be used in a research study on the effects of
a drug. The study shall be based in West Haven, and conducted at 14
other sites. A total of 600 compliance monitors shall be supplied
during the initial 30 month patient recruitment period with the first
shipment anticipated prior to February 1997. 15 communicators and 15
copies of the software shall be supplied by February 1997. Requests for
