COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 30,1996 PSA#1711DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS, AFMLO/VA Special Services Div. of NAC,
1423 Sultan Street - Ft. Detrick, Frederick, MD 21702-5006 65 -- MARKET SURVEY - STEREOLITHOGRAPHY APARATUS SOL MR-01-97 DUE
103196 POC Mary M. Boyd (301) 619-4033 The AFMLO/VA Special Services
Division anticipates the procurement of three dimensional or better
Stereolithography Apparatus systems in the very near future. The
minimum specifications required per system are: Generation of 12-13
anatomical parts a week: It is estimated that 50 models will be
requested monthly per system. Accuracy to 30 microns, and miniscal
smoothing algorithms to minimize stair-step distortions. Beside their
use for diagnostic purposes, the models are used to fabricate custom
titanium and acrylic resin implants. Accuracy is essential so that
these parts can be placed by surgeons with very few or no modifications
intraoperatively. Many of the structures in dentistry and medicine are
small and detailed, less accuracy and stair-stepping in the models
would negate or minimize the use of these custom built structures.
Translucent parts and two color models are required. The system must
interface with CAD/CAM Software from Materialise Inc. In Belgium. It is
the only known software currently available to accurately manipulate
images prior to building of the body part. Must interface with existing
hardware (UNIX graphics workstation). It is imperative that the system
be compatible with industry standards based on STL, SLI, and SLC file
formats as well as future standards. In order to determine if the
product we require is commercially available or nondevelopmental items
