Environmental Technology Site, a U.S. Department of Energy facility
near Denver Colorado, and the Rocky Flats Local Impacts Initiative, the
designated community reuse organization, seek expressions of interest
for lease of two former manufacturing facilities at the Rocky Flats
site. These facilities have been decontaminated and refurbished in
cooperation with state and federal regulators as part of the National
conversion Pilot Project. The facilities may be leased by DOE for five
years beginning mid-1997 with up to five years extension. Any required
commercial permits (including radiation materials license and waste
permits) are the responsibility of the lessee. Operational capabilities
of Buildings 883 and 65 include metal rolling, shearing, forging,
welding, extruding, pressing, grinding, heat treating, inspection,
offices, machine shop, shipping and receiving. Infrastructure and site
services are available. An additional building containing
vacuum-induction casting, vacuum arc casting and precision fabrication
equipment may become available in 1998. An experienced workforce of 60
is also available. Letters of interest are due November 15, 1996.
Facility tour will be December 3, 1996. Formal proposals are due
January 3, 1997 following a tour, bidders conference and public
meeting. A decision about whether to lease either facility and under
what terms will not be made until proposals are reviewed and an
