and Engineering Center is conducting market research to identify
commercial sources for a new Physical Fitness Uniform (PFU). The
probable next generation PFU will mainly consist of the following
items: a.) T-shirt: Final design- to be determined. Probable direction
will include pullover style with short sleeves. Fiber requirement - to
be determined. Consideration for any material that will provide maximum
comfort and durability, suitability for physical movement,
moisture/perspiration movement, with potential requirement for addition
of reflective material for night visibility, front ''ARMY'' logo
marking. Color - to be determined. NOTE: Current PFU color is Heather
Gray. b.) Trunks: Final design - to be determined. Fiber requirement -
to be determined. Consideration for any material will that provide
maximum comfort and durability, suitability forphysical movement,
quick-drying, with potential requirement for addition of reflective
material fornight visibility. Color- to be determined. NOTE: Current
PFU color is Heather Gray. c.) Sweatshirt: Final design - to be

d.) Sweatpants: Final design - to be determined. Fiber requirement - to
be determined. Considering any material that will provide maximum
comfort and durability, suitability for physical movement, good
insulaltion properties, with potential requirement for addition of
reflective material for night visibility. NOTE: Current PFU color is
Heather Gray. IMPORTANT NOTE: Alternative material and end item design
candidates will be considered and reviewed with all submittals to this
announcement. For your information, cost will be a final determining
factor. Wherever possible, responses to this announcement shall include
an estimated production-quantity unit price of the submitted items. The
following are the prices of the current items (1996 Clothing Bag
Issue): T-shirt - $5.50; Trunks - $7.10; Sweatshirt - $25.20;
Sweatpants - $16.40. This announcement is open to all potentially valid
submittals from interested contractors. Submittals shall be acceptable
for one, two, three, or all four components of the next generation
PFU. The stated requirements are for guidance, but not officially
established. This notice is for market research only, there is NO
