The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Branch of Information Systems, Menlo Park, CA, requires a contract for computer systems management and operations services. Hardware used include VAX 4000 Model 400, VAX Alpha Server Model 2100, SUN 670 MP, Macintosh II, Data General 6220 file servers, MS-DOS-compatible PCs, with DataProducts printers, Systems Industries 9-track tape drives, Exabyte 8mm tape drives, and other peripherals. Contractor will provide personnel to perform a wide range of systems management, software maintenance, user support, computer operations, and systems enhancement duties. The work is currently performed by one individual. Complete specifications will be issued in the RFP. Contractor's personnel must have knowledge of VAX/VMS and SUN Solaris UNIX operating systems; POP server software, VAX/VMX and UNIX command procedure language sufficient to modify programs which interact with the operating system; C compiler language sufficient to tailor commercial source; and operating procedures for tape/file system hardware. Must be able to independently maintain a VMS and UNIX system environment for hundreds of users, follow oral and written procedures with minimal monitoring, and generate clear and concise technical and procedural documentation. Security clearance required. Expected contract term 2/1/97 through 1/31/98 with 4 one-year renewal options through 1/31/02.
