COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 7,1996 PSA#1717

FORCE PROTECTION SYMPOSIUM POC Thomas McCabe, (703) 325-6961. This is a repeat of the announcement that appeared on 30 Oct 96. The Defense Special Weapons Agency (DSWA), in conjunction with the Office of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, will sponsor a Force Protection Symposium with Industry to discuss enhancement of protection of U.S. military forces from terrorist acts, with special focus on application of commercial off-the-shelf technologies. The symposium will include an overview of DoD's force protection program. It will outline the role of the Chairman, the Combatant Commanders, the Services, and that of the Defense Special Weapons Agency in supporting this program. Representatives from these organizations will be on hand to help define force protection issues for the industry and to pose issues as to whether and to what extent off-the-shelf technologies can meet these critical requirements. The geographic CINCs will define known requirements for the participants. The symposium's tentative agenda includes an intelligence and threat update, and panels covering a broad spectrum of topics such as: detection and alerting systems, protection systems and structure hardening requirements, and perimeter and barrier systems. DSWA anticipates that following the symposium, industry representatives may submit capability statements in each of the technology areas discussed at the symposium. The symposium results and capability statements will be a critical element in the DSWA market research of off-the-shelf equipment and, therefore, are important to future acquisitions by that Agency and the participating CINCs and military departments. The symposium will be held on 19 Nov 96 at the Marriott Crystal Forum (affiliated with the Crystal City Marriott), 1999 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, VA, from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Conference check-in will be from 7:30 A.M. to 8:30 A.M. Lunch will not be provided, but numerous eating establishments are within walking distance. Persons wishing to attend the symposium should register by faxing a letter containing the names of persons attending, company name, address, phone number, and fax number to ``DSWA Force Protection Symposium,'' Fax No. (703) 325-2955, or mail to DSWA, ATTN: Sandy Short, AMC, 6801 Telegraph Road, Alexandria, VA 22310-3398, or e-mail to acqmgt@hq.dswa.mil. Pre-registration is required for attendance. All registration letters must be received at DSWA by COB 14 Nov 96. A Conference Fee of $5.00, will be required at conference check-in. Questions regarding this announcement should be directed to Mr. Thomas McCabe, (Phone (703) 325-6961). No Telephone reservations will be accepted. Information on DSWA solicitations, already released, can be obtained by calling the DSWA Hotline at (703) 325-1173. As of 31 May 96, Acquisition Management has added ``Procurement Opportunities'' to the DSWA Home Page available on the World Wide Web. Information will include this synopsis and more.
