574-7932. The purpose of this questionnaire is to determine your
interest in supplying the U.S. Army with 22-1/2 ton platform, tandem
axle, breakbulk/container transport semitrailers capable of hauling
ammunition, breakbulk, reverse osmosis water purification unit (ROWPU)
units and 20 foot (FT) Internationa Standards Organization (ISO)
containers. Please answer the following questions pertaining to your
firm and the semitrailer that you manufacture. Any supplemental
information concerning the trailer's performance, human factors,
engineering, safety quality assurance program, reliability/maintenance.
Warranty or any other literature concerning your company's production
longevity and reputation would be appreciated. Please provide all
information and comments on company letterhead. A: General Information:
(1) Manufacturer; (A) name; (b) mailing address; (c) plant location.

number. B: Trailer physical characteristics: (1) scope. This
questionnaire pertains to a 22-1/2 ton semitrailer system capable of
handling payloads up to 45,000 pounds on highways, gravel roads, dirt
roads. Level cross-country terrain and slightly hilly crosscountry
terrain. The trailer operational profiles are as follows: Highway 65%,
secondary roads 20% and cross-country 15%. This semitrailer will be of
the heavy duty commercial container transporter type to accommodate
containers and break bulk cargo capabilities up to a maximum of 20 feet
at 44,800 pounds with a maximum payload of 45,000 pounds, the complete
trailer system shall not exceed 61,000 pounds. The trailer will be
towed by a 5 ton truck tractor (M818, M931 or M932 series), The M1088
tractor from the family of medium tactical vehicles (FMTV) and/or the
M915 truck tractor, 6x4, improved highway use only. The trailer will be
operable by one 5th through 95th percentile male or female wearing a
full range of nuclear/biological/chemical (NBC) and artic clothing. (2)
general system requirements: (a) equipment tiedowns: the semitrailer is
required to transport 20FT ISO containers, reverse osmosis water
purification units, breakbulk cargo and ammunition. Is the proposed
semitrailer flatbed fitted with the following devices and provisions
for securement of the designated cargos/payloads? (1) fixed devices:
(a) retractable twist locks; (b) ring type tiedowns: (2) moveable
device provisions; (a) ``Big Foot'' tiedowns; (b) twist lock with ``F''
pin and ``Mickey Mouse'' tiedown; (c) stake pockets; (b) bulkhead: a
requirement exists for the bulkhead to be of permanent construction.
The design of the bulkhead must be hinged to reduce the overall height
by 12'' to meet transportability requirements. Does the proposed
system have this feature? (c) deck platform: provide the type of deck
material used on your semitrailer and the method in which the floor is
cut, integrated and secured to the trailer's main beams and
crossmembers. Specify the type of fasteners used and installation
technique. (d) stowage compartments/boxes; The semitrailer shall be
equipped with a tarpaulin, bows, ropes, straps, and removable tie down
devices. Describe the type and size of the facilities provided on the
trailer where the above items can be stored. The semitrailer will also
be equipped with side board assemblies. What is the current method of
storing these assemblies for transport when removed from the stake
pockets? (e) landing gear assembly: attached as enclosure 1, are the
characteristic sheets for the designated prime movers. The 5th wheel
assemblies range from a height of 49'' to 62''. Provide the minimum to
maximum operating range of the landing leg assembly. Also, state
whether the gear assembly is a single speed or two speed assembly. End
