COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 8,1996 PSA#1718TRANSPORT SEMITRAILERS: PART 2 OF 2 POC: Gerald O'Connor (810)
574-7932. (F) 5th wheel interchange coupling characteristics: Provide
the following interchange coupling dimensions: (1) minimum clearance
support radius measured from the centerline of the kingpin to any
portion of the semitrailer 6 inches or more below the upper fifth wheel
plate. (2) Minimum swing radius measured from the centerline of the
kingpin to the most distant point on the semitrailer nose. (3) range of
kingpin setting measured from the front of the semitrailer to the
vertical centerline of the kingpin. (4) upper fifth wheel plate
measured empty from the ground to the underside of the upper fifthwheel
plate. (G) Tires: provide a general description of the type of tires
including ply ratings and load ratings as well as total number used on
the semitrailer to include the spare. (H) electrical/lighting system.
Is the proposed semitrailer equipped with a 12/24 volt electrical
system? If not, can the current 12 volt system be modified or would a
new system be incorporated? Are the semitrailer running lights and side
marker lights of the LED configuration? (I) corrosion control: The
basic metal materials forming the semitrailer shall be treated and
protected from failure due to corrosion in compliance with SAE J1617,
J1804 and J1959. Describe the type of process and material used to
protect the semitrailer in compliance with the noted references. (J)
Transportability: Describe the type of tiedown provisions incorporated
into the semitrailer which will allow for vehicle transport for
highway, air, rail and marine modes of transportation. Describe the
type of lift provisions provided on the semitrailer and can they
withstand lifting the trailer with full payload? (K) Turning ability:
with your trailer coupled to the noted prime movers, assess whether the
combination can negotiate 90 degree angle turns in both directions
without cramping, side slipping or inflicting damage to either the
prime mover or semitrailer. (3) Production: (A) How long has the
semitrailer been produced? (B) What is the total number of units
produced? (C) Estimate your monthly economic quantity for the
semitrailer. (D) Do you have the capacity or capability to manufacture
50-75 units a month? (E) Does your production involve any long lead
time items? If yes, what are the items and their associated items?
